Breeder's Edge & Shelter's Choice Feline Milk Replacer Recall — Vitamin and Mineral Deficiencies

On August 26, 2026, Revival Animal Health of Orange City, Iowa, voluntarily recalled six presentations of Breeder's Edge and Shelter's Choice Feline Milk Replacers. The recall covers specific UPCs and best-by dates across bag sizes ranging from 12 oz to 18 lb. These products were sold nationwide online and in retail pet stores.

The reason for the recall is third-party manufacturing inconsistencies that resulted in low levels of one or more of the following nutrients: potassium, copper, folic acid, choline, and pyridoxine (vitamin B6). Revival initiated the recall after independent confirmatory testing across multiple lots, reviewed by an independent animal nutritionist on August 12, 2026, confirmed the deficiencies. The company has since discontinued its relationship with the contracted manufacturer.

Kittens, especially newborns, are entirely dependent on milk replacer for all nutrition and are uniquely vulnerable to nutrient deficiencies. Revival's announcement notes that deficiencies in the implicated nutrients can cause anemia, neurological dysfunction, liver failure, kidney damage, skeletal diseases, and cardiac compromise. Because kittens grow rapidly, clinical signs may appear within days to a few weeks, and deficiencies can be fatal or cause permanent organ damage if not recognized promptly.

No illnesses have been confirmed, but Revival is investigating nine complaints of potential gastrointestinal and bone development issues in kittens that consumed the affected products. Consumers are advised to stop feeding the recalled products immediately and contact Revival Animal Health to arrange a return for a full refund.
