Fromm Dog Food Recall: Metal Contamination in Two Wet Pâté Varieties (August 2026)

The recalled canned dog foods may contain metal fragments, which can cause choking, lacerations in the mouth and gastrointestinal tract, blockages, or intestinal obstruction in dogs.

What to do

  1. 1Check the bottom or side of each can for the UPC, lot code, and Best By date — all three must match a recalled product's codes exactly before you take any action.
  2. 2Stop feeding the product immediately if your can matches a recalled UPC, lot code, and Best By date of 032029.
  3. 3Return the recalled cans to the retailer where you purchased them for a refund or replacement — do not open or serve remaining cans from the same case.
  4. 4If your dog has already eaten from the recalled product and is showing any signs of choking, vomiting, loss of appetite, lethargy, or stomach discomfort, contact your veterinarian promptly.

What happened

Fromm Family Foods LLC of Mequon, Wisconsin announced on August 21, 2026, that it is voluntarily recalling 3,852 cases of Fromm Turkey Pâté Wet Dog Food (12.2 oz.) and 1,973 cases of Fromm Diner Classics Milo's Meatloaf Pâté Wet Dog Food (12.5 oz.) due to potential metal contamination. Both varieties carry a Best By date of 032029 and specific lot codes listed on the can.

The recall was initiated after the company received complaints of metal contamination. Fromm states it has identified the source of the error and has put corrective actions in place, in addition to its existing safety processes, to prevent recurrence.

Recalled products were distributed through neighborhood pet stores and online retailers in the United States and Canada. No other Fromm products are affected by this recall.

Metal fragments in dog food pose serious risks. The company notes that dogs ingesting metal may experience choking, vomiting, loss of appetite, lethargy, or stomach discomfort. Sharp metal pieces can lacerate the mouth and gastrointestinal tract; larger quantities can cause gastrointestinal upset, partial blockage, or intestinal obstruction.

As of the announcement date, Fromm reports no illnesses or injuries related to the recalled products.
